SWEET CHERRIES EXPORT TRENDS
The overall value of exported sweet cherries accelerated by an average 113.7% encompassing all exporting countries since 2017 when total sweet cherries shipped were valued at $1.99 billion. From 2020 to 2021, the overall tally for globally exported sweet cherries increased by 23.2% starting from $3.45 billion.
The top 5 most valuable exporters of sweet cherries are Chile, Hong Kong, United States of America, Turkey, and Spain. Combined, that quintet of major suppliers accounted for 85.6% of all international sales for sweet cherries during 2021. Such a high percentage indicates a strongly concentrated group of major sweet cherry exporters.
From a continental perspective, Latin America (excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean) sold the highest dollar worth of exported sweet cherries during 2021 with shipments totaling $1.79 billion or 42.2% of the global total. In second place were Asian exporters at 33.1%. Another 12.3% of worldwide sweet cherries shipments originated from North America, with 10.3% shipped from countries in Europe.
Greece is among the 10 top countries that exported the highest dollar value worth of sweet cherries during 2021, at n. 9 with $58.2 million (1.4%)
