Exports of Abruzzo wines grow
Considering the main regional denomination, i.e. Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, in the last four years (2018-2021, cumulative period January-September), sales grew by 12% to EUR 43 million and by 6% in relation to bottles (0.75 litres). Furthermore, in 2021 there was a decline in sales in the lowest price bands (the bottles under EUR 3, mainly destined for the discount channel) and a parallel increase in all others. In particular, bottles of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo priced above 7 euro, doubled sales over the period analysed.
Sales growth in the higher price brackets led to a 19% increase in the average price of bottles of the regional denomination sold in large-scale distribution. It can be affirmed that national and international interest in this wine production, with Montepulciano d’Abruzzo at the forefront, is following a well-defined path.
